Best way to cut out Squadt Eye sockets?

To those that have cut the eye sockets so that you can see the squadt eyes through the helmet, what were your methods?

I'm thinking: soak the helmet in hot water, use a dremel to drill the hole or make multiple drills, use an exacto to clean the excuss, sand the insides.

Just take a hair dryer to it but do not hold in to direct on one spot or you could damage the vinyl. vinyl gets soft very quick from using this method

In my experience, it's actually pretty tough and I damaged the eye socket pretty bad while being careful. One thing to consider is that the helmet is hollow behind the eye socket, so there are two layers of vinyl to go through there. I cut out the socket from the front and then cut a huge chunk from the inside of the helmet to get the desired effect.

Scraped him up pretty bad, but I think it adds more character...

^You can fix all those nicks and scrapes. You can fill, primer, sand, primer, sand, then paint. Or just lay a couple light layers of primer and then paint, but the best method is the first.





Just finished mine yesterday. I love how it makes them look and will be doing it to all my squadts in the future.

What I did was run the helmet in hot water for about 3 minutes. Took a drill bit and put it to my dremel. Drilled holes into the sockets and when it was large enough, I used a sander attachment for the dremel to clean it up.

I'll probably post some progress for my custom over in the custom section. I think it took about 30 minutes because I was trying to be super careful.

Good job man! Looks great. I have always loved how squadts look that way being able to see the eyes underneath. been debating with my self. for a while now if i should do it or not to some of mine.maybe ill wait for my nkd nozzel and try it out first on that

Definitely try on a NKD before attempting on one of your prized ones. Hit me up if you have any questions. I find it easiest using the dremel method. If I used an exacto knife, it would have taken a lot longer and I probably would have either messed up or cut myself.

You have to use the drill bit for a while in order to make the eye socket hole large enough to fit the sanding bit in. I didn't use the bit where you put the sandpaper onto that bit, it was more like a mounted stone grinding bit.

i usually use a sowing pin. You can use a nerf dart just aswell.
