paint removal on squadt lenses

Post  squirmy on Thu Dec 26, 2013 9:10 pm

hey guys

I have a couple of squadt lenses with vinyl paint on them

the paint is pretty durable - won't be scratched off easily on the edges with a craft knife...

just wondering if anyone is aware of something that I can soak the lenses in that will will remove the paint but won't affect either the color or the materials of the lenses...

any ideas? - please let me know

Try goof off. I wouldn't soak it though.

Don't mean to threadjack Squirmy but since my question is pretty similar... I hope you don't mind me asking it here rather than creating another thread. Oh and sorry I have no advice on your question lol.

Any advice on removing the painted on eyes on the Squadt's head? Rubbing alcohol?

I think alcohol won't work.
Today I tried with acetone, and it work. But it will mark the lenses. Use it just if you plan to repaint them after.
And don't soak the lenses in, cause if so, you'll just find a "in the past I was a squadt lense but now I'm a gluing without any form thing"

Does anyone know how to paint the lenses (kind of like PAC 5) just spray paint right on or does it need a primer or something first??

Prime with white or black depending on what color you want. They will give very different results.

Also, maybe lightly sanding before hand for better adhesion? I just painted a set of white lens silver, similar to the ones in PAC 5. However, when it dried, a dark ring formed around the edge of the lens, weird...

I think that's probably from a heavy coat. I usually always do 3-4 light coats. The first coat should be so light that you can still see most of the original color of the lens under it. Light coats will prevent the paint from getting sticky too.
