Is the forum dying?

Post  dedicatedart on Tue Sep 01, 2015 4:09 am

I've been watching and seems people are getting out of squadt collecting and buying of these guys ? I mean for the first time ever a squadt didn't sell out like it used to it had taken hours (.50 gohst). What do you guys think?

The forum def hasn't been that active lately. And the .50 did take way longer than it probably should have. There also haven't been very many newcomers either. Cad is becoming the place for diehard collectors only.

It's a combination of a few things. The last squadt was the most expensive to date. The 50s are also pretty pricey when they're released through the store. It's hard for me to drop $60 on one and try to keep up with the regular releases at the same time. In addition to that, there hasn't been a whole lot of hype for anything new. When there's nothing to talk about, it definitely slows down around here.

But that will all change with the online assembly. And then the solo show. And the 20". Those are all HUGE.

Yes I feel that when the squadt .50s go through the store the price sucks compared to none squadt store price.
I know there hasn't been much hype for anything lately , even the B.S.T. has taken back seat it seems.
I feel like us die hard fans will jump on the 20in squadts but other then that I can't see others doing so.

I mean even the view count has dropped dramatically. The .50 nozzle had 15,774 where the .50 gohst had 1,609 I mean couple months between the drops but that's a drastic difference in views alone.
Just stating some opinions/views.

well, with people constantly making facebook collector groups, people use those more than the actual forum.

Personally, I can't stand FB groups for things like this. Forums are amazing archives of information that is easily accessible. All that gets lost and buried in Facebook comments once they are a few days old.

I know I've personally been bad about posting. I am still checking the forum constantly throughout the day. I think the toy scene is in a little rut right now. One I thing I do know is production prices are up, shipping prices are up, everything is going up except for people's bank accounts. I'll vow to do my part participating from now haha. I'll try anyways. I personally dig the diehards still hangin in there. But I miss the <5 minute drops. study

I think the hype and number of posts keeps going down because the number of releases have been fewer and further between, plus the shipping times have significantly increased.

The online Squadt Assembly has been in the works for over a year now and I think we have only seen 1 teaser so far, but it should be worth the wait once it's finally ready.

The new 20" Gassed looked solid at Mondo Con, but I'm curious to see how many people are actually going to buy one.  If it's hard for you to spend $60 on a .50, how are you going to spend $600+ on a 20"?

Same kind of thread was started a year ago:

and I don't think things have changed significantly since then.. Most of the same points probably still stand. Who knows... - I'm still here anyway. What a Face cyclops

Re: Is the forum dying?

Post  unlucky_charm13 on Tue Sep 01, 2015 1:47 pm

I'm at fault as well. I've never been an incredibly active person, but temd to visit and read on a regular basis, and still do. My desire is not gone, and I tend to follow everything surrounding our little friends on various social media applicaton. And still happily spend my money on them. Agreed the .50s rack up a bit of a price tag. But has a lot to do with the shipping. But i absolutely love them, and for me someone who can't afford to buy every squadt ever made, am hoping for an extended collection. Also, the price for everything made here is completely justified, for my money, i dont have any other toys/art that have the detail and care put into them for the price.

So the forum may be slow, but i hope nothing stops. Regardless of anything, this community is more of a family than just random people who like the same shit.

I mean there are so many guys to that have just disappeared, or stopped collecting I can think of at least 10 people off the top of my head. I hope that the next upcoming events change this and bring in some new people and some old people back to the awesome side. Lol
I miss seeing new photo post all the time, and the fun of beating each other out on the BST lol Also having that heart pumping, almost boarded line heart attack feeling when I squadt drops and you're unsure if your even going to get one let alone two lol.

I don't think there's anything to worry about, even if things have slowed down a bit the addiction still remains. I'm sure all of them will comeback soon enough.

Some older members are not posting anymore?
I look on this forum a few times a day, looking for news Smile
And yea the last few drops didn't sell out fast! And i think the last one Ghost ,50 isn't that populair with everyone.

And for myself i still don't know if i will get that big 20" Squadt ! But can't wait for the online assembly Very Happy

Hope so much you are right Marco. Neutral

From my point of view I think it's time for something completely new.
I looked at all the past drops at the Squadt store with my Girl.
First thing she mentioned that the older Drops were more innovative/creative.
I thought this over and came to the conclusion that this is true.
Various specimens, range/contrast of theme worlds and cooperations with other artists.

The 20" or the 0.50 s are cool, but they aren't really new.
To attract new and some gone-collectors it can be helpful to bring something never seen before.
Believe me I know this isn't as easy as it sounds.
But If someone has the power to master this challenge, his name must be FERG! What a Face

Re: Is the forum dying?

There's lots of different reasons why traffic and forum participation has slowed down. I've had to pass on a lot of drops because I don't have the money to buy them so, in turn, don't have to much to say on them. The .50 gohst is a good example: I loved it, wanted it, couldn't afford it, so I ignored it lol!. But I'd be lying if I didn't wonder where some of our CADers go (e.g. Dan) Suspect

Edit: When did you change your name, graeme??? lol!

Re: Is the forum dying?

Post  itsa_mia on Wed Sep 02, 2015 5:07 am

i think this is happening across all forums: kr, sb, 3a ect
just recently 3a has stopped opening a bar (thread) for new releases due to lack of participation
they have always had a bar for every release until now

i believe that og collectors have shifted their priorities to family/babies & homes within the last few years, "growing up" (sigh).
or bigger bling like a lexus  (yes you lol) king

theres still a ton of new items being released all the time (all the bloody time lol) and social media remains strong(er).
look at the number of likes .5 gohst has, 267 (nlz .5 also had 267 (weird coincidence).

ive said it before, ig is/was the death of forums
it will be what we make of it study

CADFL

btw we've had this same conversation last fall lol
