it will be interesting to see how the industry tries to attract new collectors
kr under kozik is a good example i think
he seems to have a good sense of direction for the future of kr

oh and super 7, from what ive seen theyve had a big sdcc presence, hopefully it will renew interest all around Very Happy

I'm super-new here but it does feel like things are a little less active than they were when I joined earlier this year. Personally, it's been a lack of funds combined with being away from my toys for the summeróno opportunities for new photos or displays. Hopefully things will heat up in the next few months, especially with Assembly Online happening.

I do wonder about how interesting collectible forums are long-term though. This community is small and Squadts are pretty niche so we're all into it when someone drops a new custom or photo-shoot, but the Sideshow forums are almost depressing at times for me. Sure, some posts are super-entertaining or informative, but most of it is just folks talking about stuff they've bought or want to buy or really don't want to buy. The consumerism that's inextricable from toy-collecting is part of the excitement, for sure, but it also means the bulk of posts on big forums are just no fun.

Or I could be talking total trash. That too.

Yea , I think funds are a big play for most now, me it's just been that the last few drops haven't been as entertaining to me , like the TB yetis and what not, but the .50s had me dropping cash like my hand were holding buring coal ! Lol

Guys I guess you all sumarized all reasons quite well.
For what I feel, this 3-4 last years, all concerning the toys/artoys scene have come down.
From participation, to sharing passion, discussing about it, secondary market prices going down (which is great when you wanna grab some ol' stuff you missed, but means the hype is decreasing too).
Also, seems people have less bucks to spend on toys, from states to europe and asia.

The golden age has gone .

For now ...

But I hope on here we'll manage to raise the hype and sacred fire again.

I saw Itsa posted a lot of (awesome) pics yesterday, dunno if it's coincidence or not, but let's try to post more pics/commenting more about it. That's at least what I'm gonna try to do from now Smile

Hope so much you are right Marco. †Neutral

From my point of view I think it's time for something completely new.
I looked at all the past drops at the Squadt store with my Girl.
First thing she mentioned that the older Drops were more innovative/creative.
I thought this over and came to the conclusion that this is true.
Various specimens, range/contrast of theme worlds and cooperations with other artists.

The 20" or the 0.50 s are cool, but they aren't really new.
To attract new and some gone-collectors it can be helpful to bring something never seen before.
Believe me I know this isn't as easy as it sounds.
But If someone has the power to master this challenge, his name must be FERG! †What a Face

Totally agree, overall when there are things like proto terror boys by BP sketched but unrealesed, they would be awesome !

Stupid Lexus! gimme back my money! lol!
For me personally, priorities have shifted to bigger things...like a new car and marriage plans for the future. Also, I think I ruined my collection with all of the kitbashing and custom work I've done for myself trying to get a "perfect" collection. I should have left things the way they were released. I do regret selling off a couple of my grails and weapons however, so now I'm on the hunt for 1 of each item again... which does bring the thrill and excitement back for me.
Still excited for the 20", hopefully I can afford it...Ferg offer a payment plan pls!
Like I said before, I'm not out of the game, I doubt I ever will be. Still got a handful of figures in my possession.

I've been into collecting some enamel pins lately too lol...

Unfortunately, forums are a dying breed. I do greatly appreciate all of the support of this place and of the creations over the years.

Re: Is the forum dying?

Post  Vulpini on Fri Sep 04, 2015 1:07 am

I noticed the same thing, I was planning on making the purchase when I had received my paycheck, (the following day) unfortunately I've got so much money spread around (including trying to purchase items from forum members) that I wasn't able to buy it. But I was a bit worried when I checked up at 5pm PST and they were still available.

I've also noticed less activity on the forum, today seems to have a lot of members logged in though

Also,
This is a cause to worry, I'm doing customs and although people that don't collect squadts are interested, a lot of my customers I am planning will be coming from these collectors.
